Convex
Convex mirrors have a long tradition and are sometimes also known as 'butlers' or 'fish eye' mirrors as they are designed to expand an image, thereby making it bigger. One of the earliest recorded convex mirrors is dated to 1434. However the more modern ones are largely reproductions of those from the late 18th century and feature a deep moulding ornamented with spherical balls and ebonised inner rim. Convex mirrors gained great popularity during the Federation era, mounted over a corner fireplace they give a great outlook of a room.
